Dedicated or combo OS sander? - Family Woodworking

Looking for some input. I have to replace a dead OSS in the shop. Scouring the net for a used, preferably old cast iron OSS. If you have ever looked they are not common at all. I ran upon a used combo machine. ShopFox belt and and OSS in one. Decent deal, not great but I need one soon and this is local.

I have a belt sander so I don't need this one but it could replace my old one. My concern is will I regret buying a combo machine? Obviously this has a smaller spindle table than a dedicate. Spindle size is limited to 1-1/2", 2", and 3". I use a 1" or 1-1/2 spindle most of the time but sometimes a small one is handy but not a deal breaker. Might be able to adapt it to a 1", not sure. The small table I have real concerns about

Plus side I like the oscillating belt sander. My old Acme doesn't oscillate and it doesn't have a tilting table which there have been a couple of times I wished it did. I do use the belt sander a good bit. A little more than the spindle but the spindle sander is more important to me.

No one knows what I need to do better than me, so give me some food for thought here.

How to install a car audio amplifier

Car audio amplifier is an instrument that plays music in a car. This amplifier is equipped with a tool. This means you will not get it, while buying a car. You must be purchased separately and must be installed in cars. The installation of this has some specific procedures. Here are some basic instructions on how to install a car audio amplifier.

First, you need to break away from the terminals. This is not mandatory, but that's just for security reasons. Now you need tothe power cord to the amplifier from the battery. You have to find a point in the country. Should be closer to the amplifier. Make sure that the point is connected to the vehicle frame. The connection must be established.

Run the power cable to the amplifier, as it has with the power cord. If the point of land is of any color, then remove it. Use sandpaper to make this work. It can also be used to remove rust. The connection is solid when the metal is not shiny. IfYou want to connect a ring terminal on the ground with the tips, then this is the right time to do so. After this we need the ground point with something that is non-conducting circuit. Then use some spray paint or any type of surface, the earth from the viewpoint of rust.

Forget not switch on the remote control and run the RCA cable. You need to pull your head out of the device location. Attach the remote power cable with the wiring of the head. Now chooseAmplifier, an RCA cable is included. Keep RCA cables away from power cables. Above all, they hold the power cable amplifier.

Now run all the speaker cables. Connect the wires to the amplifier. After this round of the remote control and add power to the ground. Attach the fuse holder. Always attack near the battery. If your battery terminals are very demanding, do not forget to give adequate protection and plug in the right way.Connect the cables to the battery. It is better if you brand your battery terminals with a lid.

Before switching on the amplifier is correct. Turn the gain of the amplifier. Then turn on the system and listen carefully. Check to see if it works or not. Listen to the sound carefully. Imagine, if you hear any noise or not, check and see how much noise is heard. Check to see if there is a distortion that is audible. Ifeverything is completely available, then the next step.

The next step is to consider how the power of the amp, amplifier, where you give your stay, etc. The amplifier can be adjusted perfectly. If you follow all these steps, then you are in a position to the amplifier in a safe and proper installation.

Nissan quarterly profit slides 20.3% after quake (AFP)

TOKYO (AFP) ? Japanese automaker Nissan on Wednesday said net profit in April-June fell by a better-than-expected 20.3 percent on-year due to the impact of the March disaster on production and a strong yen.

The fiscal first quarter saw heavy disruption after the earthquake and tsunami triggered parts and power supply shortages. Nissan posted a net profit of 85 billion yen ($1.04 billion according to Nissan's average rate) in the period, easily beating market expectations ranging from 40 to 60 billion yen.

The maker of the all-electric Leaf booked a 21.1 billion yen extraordinary loss in the fiscal first quarter due to the disasters, but added that it did not expect any big quake-related losses for the rest of the fiscal year.

The 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami on March 11 destroyed entire towns, left more than 20,000 dead or missing and crippled power-generating facilities, including a nuclear power plant at the centre of an ongoing crisis.

Japanese firms were hit hard by power and chronic parts supply shortages, with the likes of Nissan, Toyota and Honda having to sharply cut production and shut plants due to a lack of crucial components.

However Nissan's recovery has outpaced its peers with global production in June growing 18.5 percent year-on-year to 419,831 units. Toyota and Honda declined by 7.9 percent and 44.5 percent respectively.

Ratings agency Moody's on Tuesday upgraded Nissan by one notch to Baa1, citing the automaker's profitability and its global market position amid easing concerns over the impact of the March tragedy.

"Our rapid recovery from the natural disasters in March once again shows the power of Nissan in responding effectively and decisively to crisis," said Nissan President and CEO, Carlos Ghosn in a statement, "despite strong headwinds such as foreign exchange and rising raw material costs".

While Japanese firms have been seen to recover more quickly than expected, many continue to face challenges as the yen nears its postwar high against the dollar. A strong domestic unit erodes the overseas earnings of exporters.

Nissan posted an operating income of 150.4 billion yen in the three months ended June 30, down 10.4 percent year-on-year as the strong yen weighed on profitability. It retained an earlier forecast for an annual net profit of 270 billion yen.

Globally, Nissan sold a total of 1,056,000 vehicles in the first quarter of fiscal 2011, up 10.6 percent on-year.

Japan's second-biggest auto maker by volume, after Toyota, had a 5.8 percent global market share last year.

The auto giant last month unveiled a six-year business plan in which it aimed to achieve a global share of eight percent by the end of fiscal 2016.

Nissan, which is 44.3 percent owned by French partner Renault, also said it aimed to lift its operating profit margin to eight percent in that period under its "Nissan Power 88" growth plan.

It said it would also aim for a 10 percent share of the Chinese market, the world's biggest, while boosting its presence in economies such as India and Brazil.

Nissan currently has a 6.2 percent market share in China.

On Tuesday, Nissan said it and its Chinese partner Dongfeng Motor Co. will invest 50 billion yuan ($8 billion) and launch around 30 models in China over the next five years.

Nissan shares closed down 1.85 percent in Tokyo Wednesday ahead of the announcement.

U.S. man operates on himself with butter knife (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) ? A 63-year-old American man with a hernia plunged a butter knife into his abdomen to try to fix the problem, and later put a lit cigarette in the wound, according to police.

Police found the man lying naked on the porch of his apartment in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale in California Sunday night after his wife called to report his attempt at surgery, Glendale police spokesman Sergeant Tom Lorenz said.

"He actually impaled himself with the butter knife," Lorenz said. "He told his wife he was frustrated with this hernia, and he didn't want to wait any longer for the medical procedure."

Police officers watched as the man, after pulling the knife out of his abdomen, put a lit cigarette into the wound, Lorenz said.

"I don't know if it was an attempt to cauterize or anything," he said.

Police did not identify the man, but Lorenz said he committed no crime and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was put on a 72-hour psychiatric hold, police said.

The hospital was expected to perform the surgery to fix his hernia, Lorenz said.

Tips On How To Start An Online Business The Right Way | Online ...

Have you ever considered starting your own Internet business? If you say yes, you have come to the right place. In this article, I will share with you some great tips you can use to brain storm and uncover the best ideas for your business. A good business should start from a great idea; finding the right idea for your online business may take some time but it?s the time well spent. When brainstorming for a business idea, try to focus on what the market wants instead of what you want. It?s easy to think of what you want but what you want may not be viable for business. So, focus on the customer needs because they are your market. For instance, if you want to build a profitable online business, you must know what people are buying on the Internet.

But how do you find out what people are buying online? Here are a few tips you can use to quickly uncover what people are really buying online: Visit eBay Pulse and see what are the most popular searches there. Ebay pulse will list down the top 10 most popular searches so that you can easily discover what niche products are hot right now. For example, when I visited eBay pulse, I see the top 5 products to be ipod, xbox 360, p90x, ipod touch and iphone 3g. So, if I consider creating my e-commerce site, I will consider promoting these products. Next tip, you can visit Amazon Bestsellers and look at each category and see what are the best-selling products. Amazon carries a ton of niche products from Electronics, Health & Personal Care, Home & Garden, Home Improvement, to Jewelry? just to name a few. Next tip, visit the Clickbank Marketplace. If you are thinking of selling info-products, this is the best site to do your research to get some great niche ideas. It has over 12,000 info-products in various categories. Go through each category and see whether you can find something that you are passionate about.

Finally, I also like to visit online forums to find out what people are talking about. For example, if you are interested in selling ?car gps navigation system?; you can just type ?car gps forums? in Google and check out the forums. Sign up and participate in the forums, you can find out what people are buying in the forums. After you have identified your niche market, the next step is to do some keyword research. This is a process of finding out what users are searching online when they are looking to buy something online. Finding the right keywords is key to your internet business success. Don?t skip this step. After you have collected some keywords, you should set up a website or blog and write interesting articles based on the keywords. Creating a website is fairly simple. It does require some basic knowledge of webmaster skills, but it can be simplified if you choose a hosting option that takes care of all of the design aspect of the website. Starting an online business can be a very profitable venture. However, make sure you do some research and check out the market before you start creating your business website. Creating a business website without first doing a proper market research is a formula for failure.

if Pool is a sport, then define "sport' - Today, 12:16 PM

It seems that too many people who participate in competitive, physical, recreational activities become peeved at the idea of their
game being excluded as a sport.

The most important aspect to my definition of a sport is quite simple,

any game requiring the simultaneous attempt of your opponent(s) to prevent your progress...obviously there would be other requirements as that definition alone would qualify Video Games and other such competitions...but that's the gist...

Football, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Boxing, Wrestling etc...would constitute classic examples.

These types of games introduce a level of dynamics and psychology that are simply not present elsewhere.

I believe it is very difficult to understand these concepts unless you have played such games at a relatively high level and/or have
studied sporting competitions of many types over many years.

It is also my belief that these games are the most difficult of all requiring overall skill levels which dwarf those skills required to compete in other games, and generally speaking, the participants of which are derived from the deepest talent pools available.

Billiards obviously would not qualify under my definition,

nor would other games which are most often considered sports
such as Track and Field events, Swiw races, Gymnastics, and many more which in my view fall under the category of "competitions" requiring a certain level of athleticism

I welcome all input (except from bowlers)

Just because there aren't sweaty bodies rubbing against each other doesn't mean it isn't a sport. I've played college sports, and nothing compares to the athleticism it takes to play pool.

Most of the popular sports have similar objectives. In pool, you are trying to project an object at another object, to project it at another object. The execution is what makes it a sport.

On a very basic level, it looks like a small table compared to something like a soccer field, but the table itself, is massive.

Your definition would also exclude golf which I think is the most difficult "sport" on the planet. It's true you don't have bodies banging into each other but golf at a high level requires tremendous physical and mental stamina. Think about a sport where you can play almost perfectly for 63 holes and then blow the entire tournament on one bad swing.

I'm not sure whether pool could be considered a sport but it is certainly a very challenging and beautiful game. It is underrated and under appreciated because it takes someone with a fair amount of knowledge of the game to understand the skill required.

Just IMO...

I don't define words, I let other people do it:

dictionary.com:

Quote:

an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
I think long sessions on the table constitutes a certain level of "athletic activity."

Miriam-Webster is even more permissive:

Quote:

Definition of SPORT
1
a : a source of diversion : recreation b : sexual play c (1) : physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2) : a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in
2
a : pleasantry, jest b : often mean-spirited jesting : mockery, derision
3
a : something tossed or driven about in or as if in play b : laughingstock
4
a : sportsman b : a person considered with respect to living up to the ideals of sportsmanship <a good sport> <a poor sport> c : a companionable person
Comparing any two sports is like comparing apples and oranges. I don't know why we bother. There's room enough in the world for all of them.

Perhaps we need a way to separate a game from a sport. - Today, 03:28 PM

perhaps, by defining the difference between a game and a sport would be a good start. ie all sports are not games and all games are not sports.

Just a note about dictionaries. Dictionaries are sociological reports--they don't offer prescriptive or authoritative definitions for words, they simply report on actual usage. It is how a word is actually used within a linguistic community that determines what a dictionary reports as its definition. This is why what we think of as a word's meaning can change over time.

We got up early to do stretches on the tracks and exercises. Then we did laps because bobby came late. Then bobby would miss by a few seconds and we did more laps. Bobby came on time sometimes. I hate Bobby and coach. Sometimes it was fun when we scrimmaged, but most of pre-season was endurance training.

"You're as strong as our weakest link, guys"---coach

Then we hit the weights after training every other day for an hour. Yip we had boyish figures for the entire summer, then it goes away.

Training for pool--Once you're there, it's never gone. Those guys are still beasts.

Sex can be a sport, can't it? Also, I'm calling bs for giving bowling a free pass.

If this were a poll, I'd vote yes for billiards being a sport. However, the label is not that important.

You could also call it gambling, thereapy, recreation, whatever.

Somali rebels say famine label used for politics | Morocco World News

_325543_famine300

July 22, 2011 (Reuters)

MOGADISHU?(Reuters) ? Islamist rebels in Somalia ? who control the parts of the country where famine was declared this week ? have said aid agencies they expelled from those areas last year cannot return, reversing a previous pledge.

?

The al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militants imposed a ban on food aid in 2010, which the U.N. and Washington say has worsened the crisis, before appearing to reverse it last week.

The U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) was among several groups ordered out of rebel areas which are now preparing to return, describing the situation in Somaliaas ?extremely dire?.

The United Nations told Reuters it had not heard about any new position from the rebels and planned to take last week?s pledge at face value and push ahead with food shipments by air and sea.

Al Shabaab had promised to allow relief agencies with ?no hidden agendas? greater access to their territory.

?The so-called aid agencies that were already banned and named are not part of the agencies we free to work in al Shabaab areas,? al Shabab spokesman, Ali Mohamud Raghe, told a news conference late on Thursday in a rebel-held part of capital Mogadishu.

?They had problems with people and had a hidden agenda. We shall also expel any agency that causes problems for Muslim society,? he added, urging hungry Somalis to stay in their homes and wait for the rain to come rather than going to foreign-run refugee camps.

Some 10 million people are affected by famine and drought in a region, dubbed the ?triangle of death? by local media, that straddles Kenya, Somalia and?Ethiopia.

?WILL BE RISKY?

The U.N. told Reuters it had a ?moral imperative? to get back into the areas from which it had been ordered out.

?The approach is to test the ground, to probe and see how far we get,? WFP spokesman, David Orr, told Reuters in Nairobi. ?We are going to push the operation out unless we hear any different.?

?It?s not if we go in but when we go in. We know it will be risky but we?re going to go with it,? he said.

The WFP delivers its food in Somalia through local aid groups and not directly, Orr said.

Al Shabaab accused the United Nations on Thursday of exaggerating the severity of the drought gripping the south of the country and of politicising the humanitarian crisis.

Some analysts in the region say the insurgents will have to allow aid in for fear of a public backlash if they do not, but that allowing Western organisations into their territory is difficult to sell to al Shabaab?s more hardline leaders.

WFP at one stage faced demands from the rebels to remove women from their jobs and pay thousands of dollars for security every six months.

Aid agencies ramped up efforts across the region on Friday and intensified international appeals for funding as the crisis began to make international headlines.

The ICRC, one of the very few aid agencies which has kept up its operations in central and southern Somalia, said it had been able to operate throughout the area.

?? we have come to agreements on conditions under which we operate in these areas and it been has (possible) for us to carry out all the operations that we have planned until now and also during the last few months,? ICRC spokeswoman Nicole Engelbrecht told reporters in Geneva.

UNICEF and UNHCR have maintained a limited presence working through local partners and are working to scale up their operations.

UNICEF, the U.N.?s children agency, were only able to provide care to 35,000 of 640,000 acutely malnourished children in southern Somalia, spokeswoman Shantha Bloemen said.

Nearly 135,000 Somalis have fled since January, mainly to Kenya and Ethiopia. An average of 1,700 and 1,300 Somalis are arriving in Ethiopia and Kenya respectively each day.

The U.N. defines famine as at least 20 percent of households facing extreme food shortages, a crude mortality rate of more than 2 people per 10,000 per day and malnutrition rates of above 30 percent.

Countries including the United States and Britain have stepped up pledges but charities have criticised the response of many governments to funding an estimated $800 million shortfall.

Somaliahas had no effective central government for two decades, worsening the impact of recurring droughts. The rebels control pockets of the capital Mogadishu and swathes of southern and central Somalia.
