Youth softball coach accused of inappropriate behavior

A Mt. Pleasant youth softball coach is accused of sending inappropriate text messages to one of his players and thought he was meeting a minor for sex, the Overton County Sheriff's Office announced.

Patrick Johnson, 37, was a coach for the Tennessee Orange Crush girls softball team.

Officials say Johnson sent an inappropriate message about six weeks ago to one of his players, who then reported it to authorities.

Investigators stepped in and carried on text conversations with Johnson, until they set up a time and place to meet for sexual relations.

When Johnson arrived, he was arrested on several charges, including attempted statutory rape by an authority figure.

Johnson was jailed on $200,000 bond and is due in court July 16.
