Junior champs head Canada Games golf team

The Canada Games men?s and women?s golf teams were named following the final round of the Nova Scotia junior golf championships at Seaview.

Junior girls? winner Bernadette Little of Abercrombie will be joined by Paragon?s Elizabeth Furniss and Allison Chandler of Chester on the women?s team. Oakfield?s Emily Romkey, runner-up at the junior tournament, declined her spot on the Canada Games team citing family reasons.

Junior boys? champ Bruce Tomie of Northumberland Links leads the men?s squad along with Osprey Ridge?s Ryan Nowe and Myles Creighton of Digby Pines.

Tomie?s sister Brynn, who captured the Nova Scotia women?s amateur crown last Saturday, was a member of the 2009 Canada Games golf team.

?It?s amazing,? Bruce Tomie said in a news release, ?Brynn got to go back in 2009 so now I?ll have the chance as well. I?m really excited to represent the province; it?s like a mini Olympics.?

The Canada Games will be held Aug. 2-17 in Sherbrooke, Que. The 72-hole stroke play tournament begins Aug. 13 at the Club de Golf Milby in nearby Lennoxville.
