I knew I wasn't going to be able to make last night's 1:30 a.m. replay of the NBA Summer League game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns. Usually, that wouldn't be a big issues for me. I've never watched an NBA Summer League --- live or otherwise. But Lehigh grad C.J. McCollum was making his professional debut. That was a big deal for me because, frankly, I knew since his sophomore year at Lehigh that he was going to be an NBA player. More importantly, McCollum believed it for a lot longer than that. The 6-foot-3 guard didn't disappoint, scoring 22 points, including a couple of nice slams, a sweet teardrop after doing a Curly Neal impression and a pair of 3-pointers. He was 9-for-19 shooting, 2 of 5 from deep. He also had four assists, one steal, one blocked shot and four turnovers in 33 minutes of the Blazers 82-69 loss. Portland returns to action in Las Vegas at 6:30 p.m. today against the Los Angeles Lakers. DVR is already set since I won't make it back from the Phillies-White Sox game in time to watch the delayed broadcast. The Blazers play the Bulls at 8 p.m. Tuesday (Live on NBA TV), before pool play starts in the first year of the championship format for the NBA Summer League. Bucknell grad Mike Muscala also had a solid debut for the Atlanta Hawks.
