DETROIT ? A judge has ruled that a California man accused of plotting to attack a suburban Detroit mosque isn't currently competent to stand trial.
The Detroit News reports that Wayne County Circuit Judge Bruce Morrow on Monday ordered Vietnam War veteran Roger Stockham to remain in custody at a psychiatric hospital until he is competent to stand trial or committed. Stockham has bipolar and post-traumatic stress disorders.
The 63-year-old Imperial Beach, Calif., man was arrested in January near the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn. Prosecutors say he had illegal fireworks in his car and witnesses say he threatened to cause a "big explosion" at the mosque.
Stockham is charged with making a false report or threat of terrorism and possessing explosives with unlawful intent. He has denied planning an attack.
