Colorectal cancer Malaysia: According to Malaysian Oncological Society, In 2004, colorectal cancer accounted for 13% of all cancers. Colorectal cancer is a cancer of the colon and rectum.

You can have colorectal cancer for several years before symptoms develop. The symptoms of colorectal cancer which include:
fatigue,
shortness of breath,
change in bowel habits,
diarrhea or constipation,
blood in stool,
weight loss,
abdominal pain.

According to a non-profit organization, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. at least 58 scientific studies have confirmed that any sort of processed meat like bacon, sausage, ham, deli slices and your favorite hot dog cause colorectal cancer.

It is said that for every 50 grams of processed meat you eat on a daily basis increases your risk of getting colorectal cancer by about 21 percent.

The processed meat not only causes colorectal cancer, but it is reported in An NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study that for every 10 grams of increased intake of processed meats, you run the risk of getting prostate cancer.

Then there are other studies which claim that the consumption of processed meat have linked to leukemia and ovarian cancer as well. Scary, don?t you think?

They still do not know exactly how processed meats cause all these cancers. It could be their nitrites or the notorious saturated fat.

The only chances of a cure and overall survival is early detection. There is not much hope for those patients with advanced stage of colorectal cancer.

So health-conscious Malaysians, it?s better you go slow with your hot-dogs, chinese sausage (lap cheong), dried meat or bak kwa and the many other processed food products.
