AMHERST, Mass. ? The man who oversaw the government's multibillion dollar compensation fund for victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as the BP oil spill compensation fund is donating his personal papers to the University of Massachusetts.
The university announced Monday that alumnus Kenneth Feinberg is donating about 2,000 boxes of materials to the UMass-Amherst library system.
The materials include documents associated with the over $7 billion 9/11 fund, in which survivors and victims' families gave up the right to sue in exchange for financial compensation.
Feinberg, former chief of staff for the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, is a Brockton native who earned an undergraduate degree from UMass-Amherst in 1967.
He said he learned "how to think, how to solve problems in a sophisticated, reasoned way," at UMass.
