HANOI, Vietnam ? Police say 10 people were killed and 19 others injured when a truck collided with a bus in central Vietnam.

A police officer says eight people died at the scene from severe injuries and burns and two died at a hospital following the accident in Binh Thuan province early Monday morning.

The two vehicles caught fire and it took authorities more than an hour to extinguish the flames.

Traffic accidents kill more than 11,000 people a year in Vietnam. The country of 87 million people has around 34 million motorbikes and 1.6 million other vehicles.
