The speech writer, 22 year old Julie Wang?ombe, is a former student of the prestigious Hillcrest Secondary School and now is a student at Duke University in the United States.
Wang?ombe, who was first discovered at Slam Africa Events (a monthly event for upcoming poets and spoken word artiste) in Westlands Nairobi, is now a renowned spoken word artiste all over the world.
Wangombe has featured on Ted Talent Search that discovers array of thinkers and doers and invite them to share their work with the world (TED.COM).
?Wangombe is one of the spoken word artiste we have in the country,? Slam Africa CEO Yung Nnoi told Capital FM News. ?Her performances at Slam Africa are always inspiring and her poetry is world class.?
In an interview with BBC News, Wang?ombe said that it took a lot of work to write the speech to its perfection and is grateful for the opportunity to be part of a great history.
?When the President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta read the speech, I felt very excited, it was a historic moment, and he did not disappoint,? she said in an interview with BBC.
She also revealed that she felt inadequate for the task with no political background and experience, but was able to write it according to how Kenyatta wanted.
?We have been working on it since the election results started coming in, I drafted and redrafted until it was a perfect piece,? she said.
Wang?ombe revealed that she was recruited performing in a spoken word event by the TNA team and started preparing for the historic task.
?I?m still trying to figure it out. I love words. I love writing. I write spoken word (performance poetry). I wanted to change the world at one point. Maybe I still do! I want to listen and learn and speak,? her Facebook page says.
Has she changed the world yet? The uproar on her Facebook page praising her tells it all.
?Julie, you are an inspiration to many! You have done a great job and you have done us proud as you continue unleashing your talents. God bless you now and always! Super proud of you,? a fan wrote on her Facebook page.
