What Are Actually The Various Intervention Strategies Used

?

Article Directory :: Self-Improvement/Motivation Articles

Intervention for addiction is not only limited to those who have an alcoholism and substance abuse problem, such technique is also utilized for people with gambling addiction, addiction for sex, and an addiction to online gaming. People who show early symptoms or dependency on their addiction call for an intervention in order to make them realize about their addiction and to make them admit that they do have a problem controlling their urges and their cravings. Go through some of the intervention techniques used by trained psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists in order to confront their subject.

Intervention by a professional - Professional therapists and counselors perform different kinds of intervention for addiction all the time. One of the more common techniques they use is when they come face to face with a subject and have an intervention with them. Discussing with them how their addiction or dependency is slowly growing worse and it is not only affecting and hindering their daily performance but it is also affecting the people around them. This confrontation technique should have consent from either a subject's loved ones or friends in order for it to push through smoothly.

Intervention for Sex addiction - This type of technique is somewhat to be dealt with very delicately in order for it to become successful. The individual who's undergoing this sort of addiction needs the support of their family and friends in order to fully commit to their rehabilitation. An intervention for sex addiction focuses more on making the person admit to their problem and encouraging them to join group therapy and counseling to discuss with other recovering sex addicts how they overcame their addiction and how to avoid relapse.

Intervention for substance abuse - An intervention for drug addiction is one of the most common types of intervention for subjects who have been dependent on drugs for some time or those who show early signs of addiction. This type of intervention works by gathering the subjects loved ones and friends and making them confront and talk to that individual one person at a time regarding their dependency problem and how they can still get the help that they require.

Self Intervention - This is a kind of intervention where the person admits to themselves about their addiction and seeks the help that they require from a rehabilitation center or a recovery center that deals with their type of addiction.

Facebook allows bespoke mobile ads, shores up Achilles Heel

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is making it easier for advertisers to reach the growing ranks of users on smartphones and mobile devices, taking a significant step toward addressing one of investors' most pressing concerns and broadening its appeal to marketers.

The company, which has seen revenue growth slow in past few months, began letting marketers craft ads destined specifically for mobile versions of the No. 1 social network on Tuesday. It's also letting advertisers direct ads into users' news feeds. Both represent significant shifts for the company, which has until now restricted marketers' presence on certain parts of its service.

The eight-year-old company started by Mark Zuckerberg in his Harvard dorm-room on May 18 became the first American company to debut at over $100 billion value; but mounting worries about its inability to fully transform a growing mobile presence into ad revenue have helped wipe $32 billion off its value.

Shortly before the IPO, several analysts lowered financial targets on the company after Facebook cautioned about its revenue growth due to the rapid shift by users to mobile devices.

"It is a major drawback to Facebook that they have been unable to monetize the mobile activity of its user base," said Brian Wieser, an analyst with Pivotal Research Group.

Previously, advertisers could buy a broad category of "sponsored stories": advertisements that would run on the website. But Facebook controlled whether the ads actually appeared on mobile devices, and in users news feeds.

The tweaks to its advertising system come at a time investors are questioning the long-term money-making potential of Facebook's underlying business, and the social networks' effectiveness as a marketing channel.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Monday found that four out of five Facebook users have never brought a product or service as a result of advertising or comments on the site.

The shares closed Tuesday down 3.8 percent at $25.87, after setting a record low of $25.75. Facebook's steady share-price decline has drawn criticism -- and lawsuits -- from investors accusing the stock of being overpriced at an IPO level of $38.

Others demanded compensation from the Nasdaq exchange for a series of glitches that delayed the start of trade by about half an hour.

Nasdaq OMX Group Inc has reached out to at least one brokerage that lost money due to the botched initial public offering, saying it will make an announcement on Wednesday, a person at the brokerage firm said.

The exchange, which has battled NYSE Euronext for the highest-profile IPOs, is expected to release details of a plan to make up some losses sustained by banks and trading firms, collectively estimated at above $100 million, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources. Nasdaq declined to comment on Tuesday.

BALANCING ACT

Facebook faces a delicate balancing act as it strives to keep its advertisers and its 900 million users happy, while fending off competition from rival Web services such as Google Inc .

Making the mobile version of the Facebook more accessible to ads is a "necessary step," Pivotal Research Group's Wieser said.

But Facebook should continue to take a gradual approach to mobile ads so as not to irk users unaccustomed to commercials intruding on their small mobile screens, he added.

Facebook spokeswoman Annie Ta said there would be a limit to how many ads appear in users' mobile feeds, though she declined to say what the cap was.

The latest changes are part of Facebook's efforts to make its advertising-system easier to use, she said.

"We want to make it easier for advertisers to get the distribution they want," she said.

Debra Williamson, an analyst at eMarketer, said that some companies which committed to large advertising purchases on Facebook last year are now evaluating the performance of those ads and buying new ads on an as-needed basis.

"There's been a general acknowledgement by marketers that last year they spent a lot of money acquiring 'likes' and now they want to know what to do with them," said Williamson.

A February study by ExactTarget, presented in a graphical chart by eMarketer, suggested Facebook fared worse than email or direct-mail marketing in terms of influencing consumers' decisions.

Facebook generated $3.7 billion in revenue last year, primarily from advertising. But revenue growth has slowed in recent quarters, stoking concerns about its ad business.

In recent weeks, Facebook has taken steps to give advertisers more control over its "reach generator" feature, which broadens the number of people that can view a marketing message.

Until now, the service, which cost large advertisers upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of several months, was "always on" ? it did not allow customers to choose which posts they wanted to amplify.

Smaller businesses grumbled that the feature was limited to major ad buyers, served by Facebook representatives.

Facebook is now making the service available on a self-serve basis, rather than requiring advertisers to deal with its sales representatives.

"This is really helpful because it's so a la carte," said Jim Tobin, the President of Ignite Social Media, a social media marketing agency that counts Chrysler and Samsung among its clients. "Even for big advertisers who may be spending a few hundred thousand dollars on social, you have the flexibility to take a single post and amplify it.

"That's good for Facebook, because a lot of $5 and $10 promotions from tens and thousands of advertisers adds up to real income."

Palm oil touches lowest this year on global economic woes

SINGAPORE, June 4 ? Malaysian palm oil futures today dropped to their lowest so far this year, as investors scrambled for the exit on growing global economic fears that also dragged down broader commodities markets.???

Palm oil fell below the key RM3,000 mark for the first time since December 2011, with investors bearish due to weak economic data and as the euro zone debt crisis rumbles on.

?Sentiment is bad across all risky assets, for example crude oil. On the demand side, however, palm oil is still positive,? said Alan Lim, research analyst with Kenanga Investment Bank in Malaysia.

?Palm oil is more on the defensive side because it?s used mainly for food, so demand should be sustainable. Investors will be looking closely at the Greece election on June 17, so the market will still be volatile for this week and next week.?

By the midday break, benchmark August palm oil futures on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange had slumped 1.8 per cent to RM2,951 per tonne after going as low as RM2,939, a level last seen on November 3, 2011.

Traded volumes stood at 15,828 lots of 25 tonnes each, higher than the usual 12,500 lots as investors liquidated positions.???

On the technicals front, Reuters market analyst Wang Tao remained bearish, saying palm oil will fall to RM2,830 per tonne as indicated by its wave pattern and a Fibonacci projection analysis.

Demand for the edible oil remained firm in May, according to export numbers reported by cargo surveyors.

The bulk of the orders came from Pakistan and the Middle East where Muslims are getting ready to observe a month of fasting starting in mid July, to be followed by a month of feasting.

But despite healthy physical demand, a sluggish performance in other global commodity markets weighed on futures prices.

Brent crude prices fell below US$98 a barrel to a 16-month low today, pressured by fears of a global economic slowdown following weak US and Chinese economic data.

In other vegetable oil markets, US soyoil for July? delivery lost 1.2 per cent and the most active Jan 2013 soyoil contract on the Dalian commodity exchange lost more than 2 per cent. ? Reuters

Strasburg sharp vs. Braves

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:22 p.m. ET June 2, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) - Even though Stephen Strasburg is on a three-game winning streak, his most recent starts hadn't been especially smooth. On Saturday, he threw freely and easily, pitching four-hit ball for seven sharp innings to help lead the Washington Nationals over the Atlanta Braves 2-0.

Strasburg (6-1) completed seven shutout innings for the first time in his major league career. He opened the game with a flourish, striking out the first four Braves batters.

Strasburg struck out nine, walked none and threw 90 pitches. Twice he gave up singles and then induced double-play grounders.

The right-hander allowed multiple baserunners just once - in the third when Jose Constanza doubled and Michael Bourn singled with one out.

"I just expected a little bit too much out of myself and it was kind of getting me away from what I was trying to do, what I wanted to do out there. Today was huge for me to go out there and keep it simple," Strasburg said.

In his last two starts, both wins, he was pulled after five innings, but Strasburg was so economical with this pitches that manager Davey Johnson thought he could have gone longer.

"He had another inning or two in him," Johnson said.

Less than two years removed from Tommy John surgery, Strasburg is on a strict innings limit, and Johnson is cutting them when he can.

Strasburg would have liked to pitch longer.

"I felt like I was getting stronger as the game went on, so it's tough, but it's his call," Strasburg said.

"He's back. I don't think he ever left. In his mind, he left," Johnson said.

Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla struck out twice and grounded into a double play against Strasburg. In his previous at-bats against him, Uggla was 6 for 8 with two home runs and seven RBIs.

"He was electric. He's always electric, but today he was hitting his spots, had his curve ball going, his changeup was nasty," Uggla said.

Johnson said he heard Uggla grousing about Strasburg's stuff, but he couldn't repeat what he said.

"It was obvious he wasn't going to give him anything today," Johnson said.

Sean Burnett gave up two singles in a scoreless eighth and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save in fifth chances.

Brandon Beachy (5-4) allowed just three hits in 6 1-3 innings. He has lost three straight decisions and Atlanta has dropped nine of 11.

"Can't make mistakes in a game like that and I made far too many of them. I put people on and they're going to score," Beachy said.

"I just wasn't locating my fastball again today which leads to me throwing way too many pitches. Bad things happen.

The game was scoreless when Jesus Flores led off the fifth by hitting a drive into the left-field bullpen for his second home run of the year.

In the seventh, Beachy was pulled with one out after Danny Espinosa walked. Espinosa stole second and Chad Durbin walked Flores.

Both runners moved up on a wild pitch from Jonny Venters that hit catcher Brian McCann, forcing him to leave with a bruise near his left knee. McCann said he had to leave because he couldn't get down on his knees.

Espinosa scored on pinch-hitter Xavier Nady's double to right.

NOTES: McCann was replaced at catcher by David Ross, who hadn't played since May 25 with a strained right groin. .... Washington RF Michael Morse made his season debut after missing nearly the first two months of the season with a strained back muscle. He grounded out to short in all four at-bats. ... Johnson said that C Wilson Ramos would miss the rest of the season because doctors were unable to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn meniscus at the same time. When doctors repaired the meniscus, they thought the ligament needed time to heal and the ACL surgery will have to wait. ... Washington RHP Brad Lidge (sports hernia) says he'll have three rehab appearances next week for Class A Potomac. ... Atlanta SS Andrelton Simmons made his major league debut. He was 0 for 3. ... Braves RHP Tommy Hanson (5-4, 3.84) will pitch against Nationals LHP Gio Gonzalez (7-1, 2.04) on Sunday.

A Guide For Buying a Used Car

Buying a car is one of the biggest purchases Brits are likely to make, meaning that before drivers splash the cash, they need to know they?re getting a good deal.

buy old cars 300x225 A Guide For Buying a Used Car
Used cars can usually be found for cheaper than new models, which has been a particular selling point during the economic downturn. However, they also often represent better value for money.
New models depreciate very quickly. In the first year alone the value could decrease by as much as 40 per cent, with this increasing to 60 per cent over a three year period.
This means models which are a couple of years old will hold their sale value for longer, while cars that are five years old or over could often even better their value, providing they are cared for well and kept in a good condition.
Once you?ve made the decision to buy a used car. The next question that needs answering is, where are you going to buy it?
The phenomenal growth of the internet in recent years means that a dealership or a newspaper often aren?t the first places people turn to when they look to bag a bargain.
Even if you?re not yet comfortable with purchasing a model online, it could still provide some valuable research into how much you should be paying and tips on the buying process.
However, there is plenty of research to show that buying a car on the internet could save some serious cash.
Online dealers Autoquake believes that ?10 million was saved by shoppers buying vehicles online last year. Research by Which? paints a similar picture. The consumer group compared the cost of 14 cars both online and in dealership and found that 12 of these were cheaper on the internet.
Auctions are another option for those looking to buy a used car, but people should make sure they do their research and know all the terms and conditions before bidding on something which has gone under the hammer.
Manheim Auctions recommends heading down to the auction house simply as an observer a couple of times, before actually taking the plunge and bidding.
The traditional route of purchasing from a private seller or dealership is still also an option, but care must be taken to ensure that the car is legitimately for sale and is in the condition the seller states it is.
DirectGov advises always checking the registration certificate is genuine and offers further recommendations on its website.
Another key decision is choosing the right model. What Car? has recently named the Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Zetec 5d as its used car of the year 2010, which might be a good place to start looking.
Other models appearing in the website?s top ten included the Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Design AC 5dr and the Kia Cee?d 1.6 GS .
Regardless of the model drivers choose, and where they decide to purchase it, the key to getting a great deal on a used car is almost always doing your research.

In US economy, Romney finds plenty to bash Obama

Forget abortion and same-sex marriage: Republican Mitt Romney has made a crisp pivot toward the economy, and Friday's dismal jobs numbers are providing the latest anti-Obama fodder to boost his White House bid.

During the bruising primary race, Romney often found himself in open conflict with rivals Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, who pressed the frontrunner on contentious social issues in an effort to make him appear out of step with core conservative voters.

But ever since he outlasted all Republican contenders to become the presumptive nominee, Romney and his surrogates have zeroed in on what resonates with a broader swathe of Americans: their pocketbooks.

The shift has been dramatic, particularly in the past week, with Team Romney issuing a barrage of Web videos and ads criticizing President Barack Obama's attacks on his rival's record as head of private equity firm Bain Capital.

Republicans have repeatedly stressed that "Obamanomics" have left corporate America skittish and crying out for policies that would remove the uncertainty over tax rates and regulations that weigh down on innovation, investment and ultimately job creation.

Harsh critiques swelled to a crescendo Friday, after the Labor Department announced the US economy added just 69,000 jobs in May, far fewer than expected, and bumping the unemployment rate up to 8.2 percent.

Romney, a multimillionaire former businessman and investor, called the figures "devastating," part of a "cascade" of economic woes.

"Slowing GDP growth, plunging consumer confidence, an increase in unemployment claims, and now another dismal jobs report all stand as a harsh indictment of the president's handling of the economy," he said.

"It is now clear to everyone that President Obama's policies have failed to achieve their goals and that the Obama economy is crushing America's middle class."

Obama hit back, insisting financial troubles across the Atlantic were partly to blame.

"We've had a crisis in Europe's economy that is having an impact worldwide and it's starting to cast a shadow on our own as well," he told supporters in Golden Valley, Minnesota.

Romney, locked in an increasingly tight race with the president, was having none of it.

"This has been going on for a lot longer than just the crisis of the euro," he told CNBC television.

"This (US) crisis has been going on for 40 months. And unfortunately, you've had a president that's been more focused on his perspective of his historical legislative achievements than on getting people back to work," he said, referring to Obama ramming his signature health care reform through Congress.

Top Republicans eagerly piled on, with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor called the jobs figures "pathetic."

"It really cries out for us to actually try something new now," he told reporters.

Cantor and others did what Romney surrogates have done for weeks now: remind voters of Obama's 2009 assessment that if he didn't turn the economy around within his first term, he shouldn't deserve a second.

"Millions of Americans have lost their jobs, are looking for work, and it's time for us to change course and to have real policies that will put Americans back to work," said House Speaker John Boehner as he laid blame for the wobbly recovery squarely on the president.

Boehner also blasted Obama for again hitting the campaign trail rather than buckling down on issues at hand.

"Instead of another campaign speech, the president might want to engage with Democrats and Republicans here on Capitol Hill to handle the big policies that are affecting our economy," a frustrated Boehner said, citing looming tax battles, budget cuts and a $16 trillion national debt.

"Maybe the president ought to get out of the badminton game and get into the rugby game that's right in front of him."

Romney was just as blunt in an interview with CBS News.

Asked what grade he would give Obama, Romney pounced: "Oh, an F, no question."

On the campaign trail, Romney stressed that his business experience would be a game changer enabling him to steady the economic ship more quickly and convincingly than Obama has.

"That kind of fundamental understanding, I think the president is lacking," Romney said.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus weighed in on the "extremely troubling" jobs data, saying it proves that Obama's policies aren't working.

"Unlike President Obama, Mitt Romney actually has the experience and the know-how to get our country moving, finally, in the right direction," Priebus said.
